Day Trip itinerary
Discover with us the region known as the “Hollywood of Africa” on our day trip from Marrakech to Ait Ben Haddou kasbah, and Ouarzazate. We will leave Marrakech behind to enter this city, famous for being the gateway to the desert.
A city full of Moroccan essence where the brown of the desert blends with the little houses and narrow streets. When we pass through the Tizi-N-Tichka pass, at an altitude of 2,260 meters, along the winding road that crosses the Atlas Mountains.
Together with our English-speaking guide, we will visit the highlight of this excursion, the fortified city of Ait Benhaddou, one of the best-preserved Kasbahs in Morocco and very popular for having been the scene of famous films such as Gladiator, Alexander the Great, or the Mummy.
On our guided tour we will learn about the importance of this city as a key point in the French colonization, military force, and crossing point for Morocco and Europe, which made this desert gateway a key point of transition, leaving a mark and cultural mix unmatched throughout the land.
You’ll be able to stroll through its streets and craft shops and climb the tower where you’ll see the city as if it were a film model. The color of the adobe blends with the mountain and the desert landscape. This city hides among its sands the valley where the Dades and Draa rivers merge, a crossroads of Saharan walks through the capital of the region.
Our route will continue to the city of Ouarzazate, where you will have free time to visit the famous Kasbah of Taourirt, the film studios with impressive sets, or the cinema museum.
If you want to see the most cinematographic region of Morocco, come with us on the Ouarzazate Excursion, where you will see where famous films are shot and what the Kasbahs look like from the inside.

Testimonials
Day Trip from Marrakech to Ait Ben Haddou and Ouarzazate
This is a must-see if you're a fan of Game of Thrones! The long drive to Ouarzazate and Ait Ben Haddou was well worth it. Although four hours on the road may appear to be an eternity, Hassan makes the journey entertaining and comfortable! He picked me up from my Riad on time for the excursion, which began at 7 a.m., and we began our adventure across the High Atlas Mountains, stopping for photos and a tea/coffee break. Hassan is friendly and professional, and his knowledge and enthusiasm for his homeland are amazing! We discussed culture, politics, history, and how he got his start in the tourism industry. Hassan became a buddy to me as well as a tour guide/driver. I felt like I was traveling back in time when I visited Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO world heritage site. The Taourirt Kasbah, as well as the Atlas Studios, where films like The Mummy, The Passion of Christ, and Prince of Persia were made, are well worth visiting. We stopped for some refreshments overlooking the mountains on the way back, and Hassan showed me how Moroccans drink mint tea and how to eat cactus, or prickly pears as they call it. I returned to my Riad around 8 p.m., exhausted yet satisfied. Hassan is a great, safe driver, and his car is well-kept and comfy. I would strongly advise anyone considering a vacation to Marrakech to contact him! Thank you for making my trip so unforgettable, Hassan!

A great day, like being on another planet
We spent a fantastic day with Hassan, which was long but well worth it. The largely treeless red mountains that opened up into a red stony desert was like visiting another planet, the only green to be seen were in the river plains that were fed by water coming out of the mountains. We went to Quarzazate and took a tour of a 17th century palace as well as a movie studio where sequences from "Gladiator," "Romancing the Stone," and other films were made. Then we went to "Ait Ben Haddou," an old Berber city on a hill overlooking the valley, which was a real pleasure for me. Hassan was an excellent host for the day, going out of his way to ensure that we had an unforgettable experience.
