The magnificent old medina of Essaouira, which is surrounded by fortifications, has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2001.

Day Trip itinerary

Our Essaouira day trip from Marrakech will begin at 08:00 AM across the fertile Haouz plains to Chichaoua, where we will stop for coffee before continuing on to Essaouira. We’ll pass through dozens of argan trees along the road, where goats can be seen climbing the trees. There we may visit a local women’s cooperative to know how argan oil is extracted and how natural cosmetics are produced locally from the virtuous argan seed.  Afterward, we will continue to Essaouira. On your arrival, we will discover a pearl-white town with shades of sand, which also stands out for its hospitality and cultural mix. Rooted in the Moroccan Atlantic coast, Essaouira has a grid layout surrounded by ancient defensive bastions with cannons pointing out to sea.

Enjoy a tour of the port city of Essaouira and visit the ramparts that protect the city from the sea and the coast. Discover how the blue horizon blends with the sand and the colors of the Moroccan coast, where the citizens come to the port to buy the fish of the day and stroll through the souk and the medina.

On this tour of Essaouira, we recommend visiting the shipyards and the port, the souk full of shops and colors, the areas of the defensive fortress Skala du Ville and Skala du Port, and tasting the delicious fresh fish of this fishing village, where you will find the favorite places and restaurants for tourists to savor the spicy nuances of Moroccan gastronomy.

This small town is considered one of the paradises of the Atlantic, whose medina is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a place where the ocean winds have attracted thousands of surfers to enjoy the big waves.

Tour Morocco’s popular seaside resort on our excursion to Essaouira, and enjoy a scenic backdrop of streets that retain all the charm, identity and tradition of Moroccan culture. The local gastronomy and its flavors will intoxicate your steps in Essaouira.

Return to Marrakech in the late afternoon. Your Essaouira day trip from Marrakech will end at your accommodation or the nearest spot accessible by car from your Riad

Testimonials

Private Day trip - Essaouira

At 8:00 a.m., we were picked up from our hotel in Marrakech for the drive to Essaouira. It was enjoyable, and we learnt a lot about the area's history along the way. Said, a local who has lived in Essaouira his entire life, greeted us when we arrived. He was quite friendly and informed, and he guided us through winding streets and lanes that we would never have discovered on our own. In a nearby cafe, he presented us to fresh mint tea, which was a welcome break. Locals would stop to greet Said as we walked- he seemed to know everyone! Said took us to quaint stores where we learned about the local craftsmanship and the individuals who create the products for sale. We continued our journey for a while later after a light lunch at a fish grillade before being picked up. We stopped along the coast line for shots on our way back to the highway. It was, without a doubt, my most memorable day in Morocco. It was a welcome respite from the rush and bustle of Marrakech. A sweater or light jacket is required! This day trip is highly recommended by my hubby and me.

A Wonderful Essaouira day trip from Marrakech

Hassan and Said were excellent guides on this pleasant day, and my family and I am appreciative. From Marrakech, we had a nice travel in a very comfortable private car. Hassan spoke excellent English and was very thorough in explaining what we were seeing and answered our many questions about Moroccan history and culture. The tea and pancake appetizers were amazing, and they were served in a serene garden with lovely silver. We also got to hold baby goats from the famed goat trees along the road. Said led us to areas in the historic city that we would not have been able to see on our own, such as the ancient synagogue where we could see the Torah scrolls. Essaouira's artisans offered a wide range of affordable pottery, woodwork, leather products, and carpets. The fortress near the sea, which served as a Game of Thrones filming site, was a visual feast. If that wasn't enough, Hassan also assisted us in retrieving our misplaced luggage from the Marrakech Airport! That's what you call going the extra mile! Please book this excursion since it will be a once-in-a-lifetime event.
