    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

    7 days in Morocco

Is it possible to connect to the Internet in Morocco?

Morocco has very good Internet access. In the Riad hotels, there is no problem, and there are many Internet cafes. In the event of an emergency, our drivers have Internet connectivity. A tip is deactivating Internet data before arriving in Morocco to avoid a very high bill.

How can I guarantee my reservation?

To confirm your reservation, DESERT MERZOUGA Tours demands an advance payment of 40% of the total fee for long trips and 25% for short tours.

When we receive the required payment, your reservation will be confirmed 100/100, the rest of the total payment will be paid to our team member when you arrive at your Hotel, riad, or airport, and from there you will start your Morocco tour with us.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept payment via PayPal, bank transfer, or TransferWise. Please note that we will need and accept payment only to guarantee your reservation. If you choose bank transfer

I am a vegetarian, will I have options for eating in Morocco?

Yes! Although Moroccan cuisine is known for its lamb or chicken tajines, it also offers a variety of delicious vegetarian dishes. Couscous with vegetables, Moroccan salads, lentils, and vegetarian tajines are popular choices. In addition, Moroccan bread, olives, and nuts are plentiful. Many restaurants and food stalls are accustomed to tourists and often offer vegetarian options on their menus.

Is it expensive to travel to Morocco?

Morocco is an affordable destination for many travelers. Accommodation, food, and transportation are usually cheaper compared to many European or North American countries. However, in tourist areas, prices can be higher. Bargaining is common in markets, so don’t hesitate to negotiate to get a good price.

What souvenirs do you recommend buying in Morocco?

Morocco is famous for its handicrafts. Some of the most popular souvenirs include Berber carpets, hand-painted pottery, brass lamps, spices such as saffron and ras el Hanout, argan oil, and leather products such as slippers and bags. Visiting a souk or traditional market is an experience in itself, where you can find these and other unique treasures.

What is the best way to move around the main cities of Morocco, such as Marrakech, Casablanca, and Fes?

In the major cities of Morocco, such as Marrakech, Casablanca, and Fes, there are several options for getting around. First of all, cabs are very common and affordable. However, it is important to make sure the meter is turned on or agree on a price before starting the trip.

In cities such as Casablanca, there is a modern streetcar system that connects key parts of the city and is an efficient and economical option.

For Marrakech and Fes, which have busy and labyrinthine medinas (old cities), the best option is to explore on foot or, in the case of Marrakech, you can also rent a bicycle. It is important to have a map or a map app on your mobile, as it is easy to get lost in these labyrinthine alleys.

Do I need an adapter for my electronic devices in Morocco?

Morocco utilizes type C and E plugs with two circular pins. The voltage is generally 220V and the frequency is 50Hz. If your devices are not compatible with these plugs or voltages, you will need an adapter or converter.

I have celiac disease, will I have Moroccan food options that I can eat?

Of course! If you have celiac disease and are traveling to Morocco, it is important to be careful about what you eat to avoid gluten. Although Moroccan cuisine uses many natural and gluten-free ingredients, cross-contamination can be a problem, and some dishes may unexpectedly contain gluten.

Here’s a list of foods and tips you might find helpful:

    Generally safe foods:

    • Tagines: This is a traditional Moroccan dish that is often safe for celiacs. It is made with meat (chicken, lamb, beef) and vegetables cooked in a special ceramic dish. Be sure to ask if any thickeners have been added or if the broth used contains gluten.
    • Kebabs: Kebabs of meat, usually lamb or chicken, are usually safe. However, it is always a good idea to ask and make sure they are not marinated in gluten-containing sauces.
    • Salads: There are many salads in Moroccan cuisine such as “salade marocaine” or “zaalouk” (an eggplant salad) that are usually safe.
    • Nuts and fruits: They are an excellent choice for snacking.

Foods you should approach with caution:

    • Couscous: This is a staple food in Morocco, but it is made from wheat, so it is not suitable for celiacs.
    • Bread: Bread is a common accompaniment to many meals, and is often used to scoop up food rather than utensils. It is important to be clear that you cannot eat it.
    • Harira: This is a traditional soup that may sometimes contain gluten-containing noodles or thickeners.
    • Pastries: Many Moroccan desserts are made with wheat flour.

Tips for traveling as a celiac in Morocco:

    • Learn a few phrases in Arabic: It is helpful to know how to say “I am celiac” or “I cannot eat gluten” in Arabic. You may also want to carry a card printed in Arabic that explains your dietary restrictions.
    • Opt for higher quality restaurants: Although they are more expensive, they are more likely to understand and accommodate your needs.
    • Cook yourself: If you’re staying in a place with a kitchen, consider buying fresh ingredients at local markets and cooking for yourself.
    • Always ask: Even if you think food is safe, it’s always a good idea to ask and make sure.

Traveling with celiac disease may require extra planning and precaution, but with proper preparation, you can still enjoy Morocco’s rich culture and cuisine. Have a good trip!
