Not only you will explore the cultural city of Fez, but also the Sahara desert of Merzouga. Furthermore, we will explore the fortress of Touaregs, the Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou. In addition, the city of Marrakech has much to offer. For example, the Majorelle garden and the Jamaa El Fna square. The tour ends with your return to Casablanca airport or your booked accommodation.
Trip itinerary
You will depart from your hotel/riad after breakfast and head to Chefchaouen, the blue city. Of course, you’ll pass through a number of small towns and have breaks along the way. We will arrive at lunchtime, and you will enjoy a meal in one of the traditional restaurants located within Chefchaouen’s Medina. After lunch, you’ll have some free time to explore the blue city.
Chefchaouen is a Moroccan city located in the Rif Mountains in the northwestern part of the country. It is known for its old town’s beautiful architecture in various shades of fading blue. Its steep cobblestone passageways are lined with leather and weaving workshops. The Kasbah, with its red walls, fortress, and keep from the fourteenth century, is located in Outa el Hammam’s shaded central plaza and houses ethnographic and cultural exhibitions. Not far away, the Great Mosque’s octagonal minaret rises. Finally, spend the night in a hotel or riad (BB).
On this day, we will explore Fes with a local guide. In the morning, we will send one of the professional guides to your Riad or accommodation. Then, some sites will be explored by car, others on foot. There are many things to explore. To start, we will explore the old Medina from the outside, visit the Royal Palace, a beautiful Ksar with 7 golden doors.
Next, we will visit Borj Nord, which is located on a mountain, and from where you can see a beautiful view of the whole medina. We will enter through the Boujloud Gate, the main gate. From here, the guide will take you on a tour of Al Qarawiyyin University, the oldest university in the world. Then, he will visit the Chouara leather goods factory. We will finish the day by giving you free time to explore Fes and then we will go to your riad/hotel. Overnight accommodation at the same riad (BB).
Early today, We will continue our 10-day tour through Casablanca to Merzouga desert. We will travel through the Middle Atlas via Ifran “Moroccan Switzerland” and Azrou. You will have a stop at the cedar forest for a visit to CedreGoraud tree where you will see monkeys. From here we head further south, passing through several towns and you will have the opportunity to view nomads living in tents along the way. You will also see volcanic rocks.
Our next stop is Midelt where you will enjoy your lunch. Later, we continue our drive through the Tizi N’Talghomt pass (1907m) while enjoying the panoramic view. Afterward, we will drive through Ziz Gorge and the tunnel. Near Errachidia, you will see the Barrage Hassan Al-Dakhilche has turquoise blue water. Continue our guide to Erfoud, you will have a stop for a panoramic view of palm groves of Aoufous along Ziz River. Arriving Erfoud is known for its date and fossil festival. Finally, we will arrive at Merzouga, the high point of travel in Morocco. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel located at the foot of the dunes.
After breakfast, you begin your desert exploration and its sites. In Hassi Labied you will have a stop at the garden where you can see the irrigation canal. Near Merzouga, you will have the opportunity to see Dayet-Srji lake, which forms in the spring that attracts flocks of pink flamingos and wildlife; bird watchers will enjoy this quiet area. On the way to Khamlia, we expect to meet locals showing their desert foxes. In Khamliya, that’s mostly settled by Sudan’s indigenous people who have been used as slaves time ago. You will be welcomed with a friendly cup of tea (Berber whiskey) while enjoying their spiritual Gnawa music. Then, you leave the town and head to a panoramic view that overlooks the magical dunes.
Afterwards, you continue to visit a nomadic family, who live under the Berber tent and who are taking care of breeding cattle, goats, and camels. You will be introduced to the members of the family and get to know their way of life while enjoying the taste of a nice cup of tea. Moreover, you will have the opportunity to visit the sites of black volcanic rocks.
Thus, you go back to the Khamlia village to get your lunch, which would likely be the Berber Pizza. After lunch, we take a different adventure with camels trekking instead of 4 by 4 car via the dunes of the Sahara desert and get some beautiful time with the sunset view to reach the camp where you will spend the night. Enjoy dinner under a million stars. Next, you will be entertained with local drum music, dance around the fire. Sleep in a nomadic Berber tent.
If you wake up early enough, you can watch the spectacle of the sunrise, then enjoy your breakfast and shower in the camp and take your camel back to the hotel to meet your driver, and get ready for the new day. We will depart to Rissani to visit the local souk with the possibility to see the Fondouks where the donkeys gather, the interesting thing about this Souk is that it is not a tourist souk, but rather a souk for the locals. Continuing on our way to Tineghir via Erfoud “capital of fossil marble” you will be able to see the Khatarat (irrigation canal) on our route.
Our next stop is in Tinejdad or Tineghir where you will have time for lunch. Later, we will continue the road along the river to reach the gorges where you can walk on foot, through this extraordinary place, while enjoying the views of high rock walls (up to 300 meters). After that, we’ll continue to Boumalen Dades and then to the Dades Valley, where you’ll have time to explore the magnificent sandcastles and the incredible rock formations known as “human bodies, monkey fingers”.
